Since the early 1960s, the Johnsonite name has been synonymous in the flooring industry with lasting quality, creative flexibility, unwavering integrity and going the extra mile for our customers. Those commitments are made possible by the people who come to work every day in Middlefield and Chagrin Falls, Ohio to design, manufacture, and deliver exceptional products. Johnsonite specializes providing the industry’s broadest selection of rubber tile flooring, stairwell management systems and finishing accessories.
We design our products for every step of the value chain, from raw material selection to the finished floor. Together with our partners, we’re scaling our products’ human and environmental health benefits from installation to end-of-life.
For years, Tarkett and Johnsonite have set sustainability standards for the industry. In 2010, Tarkett was the first flooring manufacturer to sign the UN Global Compact. In 2022, EcoVadis gave Tarkett a rating of 74 out of 100, placing the company at a Gold level. This score places Tarkett in the top 2% of rated companies.
We eco-design our products according to Cradle to Cradle principles, and 95% of our raw materials have been assessed by a third party. Starting in 2013, we began releasing Material Health Statements (MHS). These disclosures show exactly what materials go into our products down to 100 parts per million and help us identify and eliminate any materials of concern.
In 2022, Tarkett announced its Climate Roadmap for 2030, which includes a commitment to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 30 percent across its entire value chain by 2030—in full alignment with the Paris Climate Agreement objective to limit global warming to 1.5°C. To provide full visibility into these efforts, Tarkett has been evaluated and assessed by the independent organization Science Based Targets (SBTi) to confirm its reduction targets, which includes emissions from its own activities (Scope 1) and its purchased energy (Scope 2)—as well as those arising from the rest of its value chain, from suppliers to end customers (Scope 3). These targets were confirmed by SBTi in January 2023.
