The Muvman from Aeris sets new standards in workplace seating for range of motion, adaptability and height adjustment.
Work Design loves to discover new products to bring to our readers. One recent discovery is the standing seat Muvman from Aeris. As more emphasis is put on the provision of ergonomically sound seating options in the workplace, the Aeris Muvman offers options for sitting and standing comfortably while working.
The Aeris Muvman is a standing seat that provides users with the flexibility to switch between sitting and standing positions, allowing the body to follow its natural need for movement. With its variable, stepless height adjustment, it’s perfect for every body size and table height – whether sitting or standing.
The central element of the Aeris Muvman is the flexible joint that is situated near the ground. It allows the angle of the central strut to automatically adapt to the user’s posture and movements, enabling motion in all directions and extending the user’s reach. The many movements train the muscles and promote the metabolism of the intervertebral discs. The central strut’s forward inclination additionally ensures that the distance to the table or workspace remains optimal at all heights, preventing poor postures.
Additionally, the Aeris Muvman effectively relieves the load on the back, legs and feet. Standing becomes much less strenuous and more comfortable. The standing chair also takes the load off the lumbar area. Finally, the many movements users of the Aeris Muvman engage in promote blood flow in the entire body, including the brain – making them more productive.
Aeris has developed two variants of the Muvman standing chair specially for the increased requirements for standing chairs in research and production, assembly, laboratories, pharmacy, medical practices, semi-conductor manufacturing, micro-systems technology, photovoltaics etc. which include the Aeris Muvman Industry and the Aeris Muvman Industry ESD (Designer: Tobias Caratiola).

How will the Aeris Muvman impact workplace design?
Almost every second worker in Germany works on their feet 70 percent of the day. This is especially true in retail stores, production facilities, labs, hairdressers’ salons or medical practices. This is not just uncomfortable, but can also have dramatic consequences as constant standing increases the risk of circulatory diseases and musculoskeletal disorders, e.g. back ache or chronic incorrect posture. With the Aeris Muvman standing chair, Aeris supports those who need to stand a lot. The chair is equipped with intelligent technology and ergonomics to fulfill all the requirements of standing workplaces.
There is a current boom in height-adjustable desks in order to make office work healthier and more physical. It’s a good idea – but unfortunately, it’s also usually just a waste of money. Most people use the height-adjustable tables far too infrequently. Standing for a long time is uncomfortable, and over long periods, is no healthier than sitting for too long. The Aeris Muvman enables a comfortable sitting/standing dynamic at different work heights and thus increases the motivation to use height-adjustable desks correctly and so to fully benefit from their health effects.
What was the inspiration for this design of this product?
Our aim was to develop a standing chair that could be used both in the office and in other areas such as medical practices, information points, fair booths, and even at home. In short, we wanted this product to be used anywhere work is done standing up. And of course, we wanted the standing chair to allow for a wide range of motion, as all of our products do. It has been proven that long periods of static standing are just as unhealthy as long periods of static sitting – and that’s something we wanted to change.
The chair was designed to be lightweight and easy to transport, and to be flexible in its use. The touch buttons for height adjustment have been integrated almost invisibly into the chair and are very easy to operate. The height adjustment is stepless and can easily be adapted to all heights. The seat was equipped with Flexzone technology (integral foam), which has two advantages: it is comfortable, and it yields to the body’s weight, ensuring unimpeded blood flow. The non-slip rubber furthermore guarantees stability in every sitting and standing position.
