KFI Studios’ Avalon lounge, designed by UNION Design, is where the crossroads of work and lounge come together.
In today’s workplace, where you work has become much more flexible and Avalon offers an alternative, more relaxing way to work. When not busy with work, Avalon becomes your place to simply relax and recover from the day’s stressors. The Avalon lounge is ergonomically sculpted so you can comfortably recline while keeping your head in an actively engaged position. The minimal forms were specifically designed with a split seat and back for more compact and sustainable shipping. The flat packed steel frame is simple and light to maintain visual focus on the refined seating surfaces.
For the workplace, Avalon can be used in many spaces including lounge spaces, collaboration spaces, breakout spaces, open floor plans, private offices, and wellness rooms.
The optional accessories that take Avalon from lounge to work include a pneumatic height adjustable swivel table and a privacy screen; both which can be left or right mounted. With a 360° swivel and an integrated device stand, the swivel table easily becomes your work surface where you can use your laptop, tablet, or smartphone. The privacy screen provides a degree of solitude from your surroundings and comes with a side table and coat hook for extra functionality. An under surface mounted power option can be added to the side table so you can stay charged and connected.
Many Options for Customization
The Avalon lounge, along with the privacy screen, is available in nine 3D knit colors. Made from recycled plastic bottles, the 3D knit is 100% REPREVE® polyester and is a sustainable alternative to traditional upholstery by eliminating textile waste. For designers looking for more customization, it is also available in a large selection of graded-in upholstery. The accessory tables and coat hook are available in two laminate colors that add warmth and richness – dark chestnut and European beech. A black frame rounds out the finishes and complements any style.
The Inspirational Sustainability Story Behind Avalon
The driver behind the design of Avalon was to have a chaise lounge that can be flat packed to reduce the carbon footprint of shipping. This resulted in a two-piece seat instead of a one-piece construction typically found in chaise lounges.
Additionally, Avalon’s standard textile option is 100% recycled polyester 3D knit. While traditional cut and sew fabric results in waste, 3D knit eliminates textile waste because it is knitting the piece to shape.
The lounge chair knit is made from 82.2 recycled plastic bottles and the privacy screen knit is made from 95.2 recycled plastic bottles.
So far, Avalon has earned two certifications: SCS Global Indoor Advantage™ Gold and REPREVE® certified 3D knit.
