WDM’s Chair of the Month is back with a new review! COTM has explored Eager, Path, and Rokkitt. This past month we worked from Karman by Steelcase

Work Design Magazine’s Katie Sargent along with the design team at Ted Moudis NYC collectively logged 40+ hours working in the Karman Chair. Here’s what they experienced.

Meet Karman by Steelcase

This task chair may be light but it packs a big punch! The patented hybrid mesh seat and LiveBack technology provide flexible support that accommodates any body. Automatic adjustments and easy-to use dials offer maximum customization for each user.

The Rundown

  • Key Feature: The chair has a weight-activated mechanism providing automatic adjustments for the user.
  • Chair Design: A patented hybrid seat moves with your body to offer comfort and flexibility for long durations.
  • Weight Capacity: 350 lbs.
  • Adjustable Options: Four different recline positions all adjustable through a comfort dial on the side of the seat.
  • Fabric Options: A variety of light and dark color-ways and bases are available.
  • Sustainability Spotlight: This is a sustainable product using 25% recycled materials and it is 85% recyclable.

What We Loved Most

Over the course of August, our reviewers spent time in the Karman chair both at home and in the office. When the chair arrived at the first reviewer’s apartment building, it was whisked out of the box with ease! Don’t let the lightness fool you – it’s easy to move around, however this chair does not compromise on quality. It’s comfortable to sit in throughout the day.

GOOD LOWER BACK SUPPORT, THE MESH RETAINS IT SHAPE REALLY WELL.

The chair has a mix of automatic adjustments as well as dials to achieve your ideal support. Our favorite adjustments include a good range for seat height, and arms that are adjustable up, down, left and right, as well as different levels of “locking” for tilting of the backrest. The look and ease of the chair makes it a great fit for workstations.

Additional Feature Spotlight

  • Can be purchased as a stool which is great for high-tops or a sit-to-stand desk
  • Additional lumbar support can also be added to the chair
